Week Review 9/17-9/21

This week the students recognized Constitution Day (9/17) with some activities and a video. We began discussion of Timelines and completed a worksheet to practice these skills.  We began our unit on Mesopotamia and the students participated in a hands on activity to help them understand the importance of living near a river system. Ask them about "Where's the Water".  If you would like to extend your knowledge on Mesopotamia, I have links on my blog- if you scroll down you can explore them.

Technology Information Night

This week all students will be given access to their school Google accounts. This includes the use of a Gmail account that is meant to be used for educational purposes only. The focus of the Google accounts is not the email portion of Google, but the cloud based applications that are available (documents, calendar, sites, etc.) If you have any questions regarding the technology your student is using at Troy, please attend the Technology Information Night for Parents. Our first session is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 7:30pm in the Troy Cafeteria.

Topics for this session will include:

·         Gradebook Wizard

·         Google Accounts for students ( including Gmail)

·         Adding Chrome as your web browser at home

·         Khan Academy

Look for additional Technology Informational Nights to be scheduled throughout the year.

Week In Review 9/4-9/7

This week the students focused on looking at information from different perspectives of Social Studies. This is known as H.E.L.P. (Historian, Economist, Location(geographer), Political Scientist).  We watched segments of a television series called Kid Nation and discussed the problem solving process based on what the students in Kid Nation experienced.  If interested, you can find the video segments on Youtube.  We finished off the week with introducing information about the agricultural revolution.

Have a Great Weekend!
